||Currently I’m on my 3rd year of PhD studies, specializing in minimalist syntax and the syntax-discourse interface – see how information-theoretic notions influence word order. I also have an interest in syntax-prosody matters, mainly weight-related word-order variation. Another topic that has puzzled me lately is clitic placement. Given that my 1st language is Portuguese (null subjects!), I’m looking forward to the classes by Biberauer, as well as the ones by Herburguer (NPIs are omnipresent too in Portuguese). I’m also interested in the intricacies of Verb-first languages, something I never delved in. I also bet this will be a great opportunity to update my (meager) phonology and advance my (poor) semantic knowledge. Anyway, I plan to attend all courses – if I can handle it all. In Portugal we don’t get a lot of summer-schools, so this is a must go for me. And the final reason is that I’ve recently began discovering Slavic syntax – and this is an opportunity to meet people from Eastern Europe and learn more about complicated case systems, scrambling, clitics, multiple wh-movement, dative subjects and what not!
