self-description I am a 4th year MA Philosophy student (right now I am on an Erasmus stipend in Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, Belgium)

Previous linguistic experience

  • A 1 semester course about HPSG at Katholieke Universiteit Leuven
  • A 1 semester course about language engineering in general
  • A 1 semester NLP course (mainly formal grammars and parsers)
  • At the moment I am an intern in the Center for Computational Linguistics in K.U.Leuven and I am working on a rule-based lemmatizer for Dutch.
  • A 1 semester course about the philosophical foundations of liguistic theories.

At Warsaw University:

lots of logic

  • The computational complexity of processes postulated by linguistic theories: how is it possible that our brains can actually perform them?
  • Practical applications of linguistic theories: how can we use them to make nice tools, e.g. for machine translation? How should we simplify our theories so that they are able to parse a sentence in reasonable time?
  • How can we mix statistical NLP with rule based approaches?

Why do I want to go to the Egg?

Linguists tend to be nice people. Brno is a nice town. Czech beer and Czech cuisine are delicious. It's for free. Isn't it obvious? ;-)

(And I think it would be nice to know something about linguistic frameworks other than HPSG.)

More about me

I enjoy playing with antique computers (like Lisp machines), programming in strange programming languages (like Lisp or Prolog), skiing, playing the guitar... You can find more about me on my web-pages:
