Restructuring and the syntax of verb clusters in West Germanic

Roland Hinterholzl

The course introduces the properties of restructuring infinitives in West Germanic. It first discusses the properties of verb clusters as well as the effects of clause union. Then I will present the evidence that the complex properties of these infinitives can only be done justice to with a biclausal analysis. Finally I will argue that a biclausal account requires an analysis in terms of vP- and TP-remnant movement.
