Introduction to Optimality Theory
Sara Finley
This introductory course will cover the basic architecture and properties of Optimality Theory, or OT. The empirical context for the introduction will be basic syllable structure and stress. No previous background in phonological theory will be presupposed; the course will introduce the phonological background as necessary. In line with the theme of this year’s EGG (external evidence), the final day will tie in ‘experimental’ approaches to Optimality Theory.

Day 2
