Embedding: subordination and Theory of Mind

Bart Hollebrandse

We commonly report beliefs ascribed to other people by the use of
subordinate clauses. There might be a tight relation between embedding
in language and embedding in cognition. De Villiers and De Villiers even
show that syntactic embedding plays a driving role in developing a
Theory of Mind.

We will discuss the relation between language embedding and Theory of
Mind. Important questions are:

1. How tight is the relation between syntax and theory of mind?
2. What can research into multiple embedding tell us?
