Introduction to Optimality Theory - part 2

Wendell Kimper

This course will briefly survey some of the next-generation modifications to OT, which alter some of the basic architectural assumptions of the theory. We'll take a look at derivational variants (Harmonic Serialism, Stochastic OT), weighted-constraint variants (Harmonic Grammar, Maximum Entropy), and various ways of introducing variable or probabilistic outcomes. Suitable for beginners who have taken part 1 the previous week, or anyone with a basic understanding of OT.
