I have been an MA student in Linguistics at Bogaziçi University since September 2006. My main interests lie in the field of phonology and particularly in relation to vowel harmony, vowel-zero alternation and reduplication. However, I would like to get a better theoretical background in other subjects, too. I have worked on some phonological issues within GP. It is a great opportunity to learn more about other theories such as OT about which what I know is extremely limited, as well. I am also writing my MA thesis within GP and I hope the EGG will be an inspiring experience for my present and future studies. Regarding the courses the EGG offers this year I am interested in Introduction to (phonological aspects of) Arabic nonlinear morphology by Ali Idrissi, Introduction to phonological phrasing by Charles W. Kisseberth, Introduction to Standard Government Phonology by Markus Alexander Poechtrager, Introduction to Optimality Theory by Sara Finley, Optimal Domains Theory by Charles W. Kisseberth, and External evidence and Government Phonology by Markus Alexander Poechtrager. I believe the EGG summer school will offer me an opportunity to interact with linguists with a strong generative background. I hope to find some inspiration on the topics of my MA thesis there. |
