I'm a Bologna-third year at the Uni. of Sarajevo. What I am mostly interested in revolves around bilingualism and language acquisition. I'm wrapping up my B.A. thesis on code-switching, which is at an introductory level, since I've had none socio-linguistics courses offered as part of my undergrad studies. But I've gained some insight into the topic through two morphosyntax courses, two syntax courses and, much to my amazement, through two courses dealing in ELT that covered a lot of the theoretical groundwork on acquisition. This class also covered some Pinker, whose work I see mentioned as part of the courses offered at EGG, which props up my enthusiasm. I'd be interested in sitting in on the OT intro course, definitely the course on bilingualism, L2 learning and SLI (my interest here is doubled because of Albanian, a language I don't speak despite my partially Albanian heritage; this seems like a great way to get started with Albanian, though!). The Embedding and Neuromorph courses also sound really great and I think they'd help me get more interdisciplinary insight into bilingualism as such.
I'm still uncertain whether I'm going to pursue an M.A. in English (my two choices here being either literature or linguistics), but I can't deny my curiosity, and I think that, apart from everything I'm bound to learn if I get to attend, the experience might help me make up my mind about what to study further!
Hope to see you in Poznan! |
