I am a graduate of English language and literature from Belgrade University. I was to start PhD studies last October, but due to the changes in the educational system in Serbia the courses have not started yet. So far, I have conducted some research in psycholinguistics, and although this has given me the invaluable opportunities of conference participation and discussion with other researchers, I now feel that this is not entirely my cup of tea when it comes to linguistics. Within syntax, I am currently interested in wh-movement, as well as in clitics, especially second-position clitics in Serbian and their occurrence after fronted wh-phrases. Last summer I attended the ESSLLI summer school at Trinity College, Dublin, and especially enjoyed Geoffrey Pullum’s syntax course, as well as Rathert’s semantics/morphosyntax course on nouns and verbs. However, as I would like to expand my knowledge in the generative framework before embarking on PhD research and finally opting for one particular area, attending the EGG seems to be the perfect thing to do. I plan to attend all syntax courses, and I am also looking forward to Marta Abrusan’s Topics in the semantics of questions and Nielsen’s Reciprocals class. |
