I am currently studying advanced Linguistics in my MA at the English Department of the University of Bucharest, after graduating from the Faculty of Foreign Languages and Literatures at the same university last year. In my three years of college I studied linguistics in the Generative Grammar framework, with such professors as Alexandra Cornilescu, Larisa Avram, etc. I also studied as an Erasmus student in Spain for one term, at University of Navarra. Since I mostly enjoy Phonology, I wrote my final paper on the phonological processes in English and Spanish in a Feature Geometry approach, supervised by Professor Andrei Avram, a paper which I am soon to present in my college’s annual student conference. However, I'm interested in and I’m eager to learn about all the fields in this science and the interface between them, and enjoy cross-linguistic approaches to it, my main interest being in Romance and Germanic languages. Among my MA classes I've had: Computational Linguistics, Language Acquisition, Formal Semantics, etc. The Egg would a wonderful opportunity for me to study linguistics in an international atmosphere and to learn new things from professors whose research I've studied, such as Pesetsky. It would be especially helpful in my future study: in writing my MA thesis, and because I intend afterward to do my PhD in Linguistics. Besides, I’ve heard only great things about the Egg from colleagues who have already been there. Thank you. |
