I am a PhD student at Dokuz Eylul University, Department of Teaching English as a Foreign Language. Before that, I did my MA again on teaching and as part of my undergrad studies, I focused mainly on English literature. I haven't received a formal education on linguistics and consuquently I do need a way of improving myself in this area. One way of filling in the missing pieces is to do lots of research and read a lot on these areas, which is what I have been doing. However, particularly in the area of phonology, without a sound basis, reading alone is by no means sufficient. A better understanding of linguistic issues would enable me to carry out my studies with an interdisciplinary perspective. Such an insight will definitely contribute highly to my dissertation as well. My thesis is about integrating tranlation and technology into language teaching. A deeper knowledge in the field of linguistics will certainly help me understand and cater for learners' acquisition processes. |
