I graduated English language and literature at the English department, Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Sarajevo and am planning to enroll into a Linguistics MA course this year. My particular interest is Syntax and this year’s EGG provides an abundant set of lectures on the said topic. Having participated at the previous two EGGs, I have had the honour and pleasure of attending its classes dedicated to syntax. What I hope to benefit from at this year’s EGG would be to become acquainted with different approaches to the introduction into Syntax which I believe will offer a new perspective to the manner in which I have encountered the same topic before. Analysing all these various styles of teaching and researching syntax will provide a copious source in future instruction and education of both syntax and linguistics. My particular interest is in Introduction to Syntax I and II because they provide two diverse points of analysis of the same topic by teachers coming from different universities. Having lived in Kenya as a child, I learned basic Kiswahili making The nanosyntax of Bantu nouns and concords class of extreme interest to me and I trust it will easily be linked and related to the topical Nanosyntax class. I have never had the opportunity to attend classes dedicated to the “nano-analysis” of any Bantu languages and I deem this class would be quite beneficial to both my research and the education I can provide to students of syntax and linguistics in Bosnia and Herzegovina who rarely have the opportunity to listen to any lectures related to Bantu languages. Other topical classes such as The syntax of ellipsis, Perfect doubling, Recent developments in (the theory of) ergativity and others will indubitably present new approaches to topics I have had the chance of researching before. Last but not least of the reasons for my applying to the EGG 2010 is the opportunity to once again meet up with many friends (who have now become my second family) I had the pleasure of meeting the previous two years and to repeat the wonderful experience that last year’s EGG offered me. |
